DAP, Umno urged to resolve animosity for productive collaboration in state polls
SHAH ALAM - The ongoing animosity between DAP and Umno must be put to rest to foster a productive working relationship between the two parties in the upcoming state election.
Kapar division Umno Youth chief said the suggestion of DAP to issue an apology to Umno was essential to ensure the grassroots leadership understood that the party had changed and was sincere in establishing friendship.
"We have endured insults and derogatory remarks from DAP, branding us as bandits, thieves, and robbers.
"Our party leaders, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, were implicated in unimaginable controversies. We were ridiculed, humiliated, and our dignity was tarnished.
"Yet, we are now expected to embrace a group that has consistently accused us of various misdeeds. This is why the Umno Youth chief proposes an appropriate solution," he said
He made these comments during an episode of the 'Plot Twist' podcast on Sinar, broadcasted on all Sinar digital platforms on Thursday.
Earlier on June 8, Umno Youth chief Muhammad Akmal Saleh, in a policy speech, demanded a public apology from DAP to Umno as a gesture of sincerity in forging cooperation.
This act, he believed, could potentially assuage the doubts of Umno members regarding DAP's true intentions.
Affifi highlighted that the party's involvement in the unity government extended beyond the state election and encompassed the 16th General Election (GE16) as well.
"That's why addressing the current state of affairs is crucial. We must not remain silent or disregard the sentiments at the grassroots level in our pursuit of peace.
"For me, creating a win-win situation during the election is essential. Our participation should include more than providing support or securing votes from Umno supporters and the general public.
"If there is no mutually beneficial outcome for both sides, we may ultimately face defeat," he explained.
