Robbers ransack Bahau gold shop, causing RM1 million loss
JEMPOL - A gold shop in Bahau here suffered a loss of approximately RM1 million after thieves had broke into the shop early this morning.
The owner of the premise, who is in his 40s, however, only noticed the incident after his employees informed him about it as he opened the shop at around 9am.
He said his employees smelled a burnt smell and saw the shop in a suspicious state.
"After checking the shop, it was found that many previously displayed jewellery had gone missing and the shop's back door was opened.
"So far I'm not sure the total amount of loss because it is still under investigation but it is expected to reach around RM1 million and more," he said when met by reporters at Bahau today.
He said this was the first incident since the shop opened eight years ago.
.
"Before this, I only sold gold online and then decided to open a premise in Bahau.
"The business will operate as per usual even though I am still sad and shocked. I am leaving it to the police to investigate because arresting the criminal would save other gold sellers and solve many more cases," he said.
It was understood that apart from the gold shop, two other premises, both courier companies in Bahau, were also broken into.
The police will issue a statement soon about the details of the incident.
