Acryl officially hands over top-cop position to Razarudin, Ayob the new DIGP
KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani today officially handed over the country’s top cop position to newly minted Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
Razarudin was previously the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) and would hold the position for a term of two years, from June 23 this year to June 22, 2025.
The ceremony also saw the handover of duties for the Federal Police Criminal Investigation Department Director Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, who was appointed as the new deputy IGP.
Acryl, in his speech, congratulated Razarudin and Ayob, stressing that the handover was critical to ensuring the preparedness and smoothness of the force.
He also said that May 4, 2021, was a date that he could not forget as it was the date he was appointed as the IGP.
"It is something beyond my expectations. When I first joined the police force as a cadet on Feb 2, 1986, my main aim was to find a source of income for my family during the recession.
"I did not expect or foresee that joining the force, which I thought would be something temporary, would actually leave me with deep feelings for the police force," Acryl said in his speech.
Both handover ceremonies were witnessed by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol), Jalan Semarak, here.
Saifuddin paid tribute to Acryl, saying the outgoing police chief was genuine in protecting the police force and prioritised the welfare of the police.
The ceremony saw the signing of the handing-over documents and receipt of the position by Razarudin and Ayob, respectively.
The new appointments come after Acryl Sani announced that he would be retiring from being IGP earlier than scheduled in his contract, which was supposed to end in October.
For the record, 61-year-old Razarudin has held several posts in the police force after starting his service in 1984 at the Kedah Criminal Investigation Department as an investigating officer before transferring to the Muar district police headquarters as an assistant superintendent in 1996.
Other positions he has held include Kudat chief of police, Sabah deputy commissioner of police, and Federal Police Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director before being appointed as the deputy IGP in 2021.
Meanwhile, Ayob was born on July 27, 1966, in Kota Setar, Kedah, and has a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
He joined the Bukit Aman special branch in 1993 as an assistant superintendent of police and became the special branch's deputy commissioner of police in 2016.
In 2020, he was promoted to commissioner of police and became the Johor police chief.
He was subsequently promoted to be the NCID director, followed by the CID director last year.
