ALOR SETAR - Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has called on all political parties to uphold democratic principles during the State Assembly dissolution period and the subsequent voting days until the formation of a new state government after the elections.

Sanusi highlighted that all participating parties, including Perikatan Nasional (PN), should rely on their own resources and refrain from utilising government assets during their campaigns.

“I hope the democratic process goes well. Don’t use government property or funds for a campaign.

"Don’t use government agencies or departments when campaigning,” he told a press conference after chairing the Exco meeting in Wisma Darul Aman on Wednesday.

Sanusi, who is also the Kedah PN chairman urged all parties to leverage their respective strengths and capabilities to appeal to voters.

"Conduct a principled campaign and avoid discrepancies between rhetoric and actions," he said.

Sanusi mentioned that the State Legal Advisor would provide guidelines on matters that the temporary or caretaker government could implement.

"We will instruct all Exco members to return their official vehicles. We want them to abstain from using government property during the campaign. I hope other parties will follow suit," he added.

Sanusi is scheduled to meet with Kedah Sultan, Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, on June 25 to propose the dissolution date for the Kedah State Assembly, which is set for June 28.

He reminded everyone to respect the authority of the Kedah Sultan, stating that all related matters would be announced after obtaining the Sultan's permission.

"I can only make the announcement after receiving the Sultan's permission. I cannot disclose the composition of the Exco or name myself as the Menteri Besar prematurely. If I were to do so without the Sultan's consent, it would create complications," Sanusi explained.

He called for prudence and acknowledged that the power lay with another party.

Despite discussing the potential candidates, he cautioned against overstepping boundaries while waiting for the Sultan's decision.
