KAJANG - A convenience store employee in Semenyih was assaulted after confronting a man who allegedly stole umbrellas from the store.

According to Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan, the incident occurred around 5am when the suspect and his acquaintance visited the store to buy drinks.

The suspect reportedly took three umbrellas without paying for them.

"The employee reprimanded the suspect for his actions, which led to a confrontation between the two individuals.

"Moments later, the suspect returned to the store and physically assaulted the 18-year-old victim," Mohd Zaid said in a statement today.

Following the incident, the victim sought medical treatment for injuries to his face and subsequently filed a police report.

The Kajang district police headquarters initiated an investigation into the matter, with the case being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code.

“Efforts to track down the suspect are underway, and witnesses are urged to contact investigation officer Inspector Nur Fatihah Awang at 011-25703695,” he said.
