MUAR - A senior citizen died in a tragic incident involving a violent altercation in Taman Temiang on Sunday.

The altercation occurred when the victim reprimanded her son for making excessive noise, leading to a confrontation where sharp weapons, believed to be an axe and a knife, were used.

Muar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Muhkliz Azman Aziz said he was informed of the confrontation between the two family members at 8.20pm on Sunday.

"The incident is suspected to have occurred when the suspect, after being reprimanded for making excessive noise, became agitated and attacked the 73-year-old victim's head with sharp weapons," he said.

The suspect, a 47-year-old man, was arrested at the scene, and investigators seized the knife and axe believed to be the weapons used in the crime.

Investigations also indicate that the suspect has a history of psychiatric issues.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
