Wan Junaidi to be sworn in as Dewan Negara Speaker tomorrow
KUALA LUMPUR - Tan Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar confirms accepting the offer to be Dewan Negara Speaker.
The former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) said he will be sworn in as the new Dewan Negara Speaker at the Second Session of the Second Term of the 15th Parliament tomorrow.
"Tomorrow, Dewan Negara will convene without a Speaker first. But I will be sworn in as Dewan Negara Speaker.
"My appointment as Senator was consented to by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on June 14 after Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) presented my name," he said when contacted by Astro AWANI today.
Wan Junaidi also added that he received a call from a leader at the federal level who offered him the position of Dewan Negara Speaker.
However, the former Santubong MP refused to reveal the identity of the said leader.
He will replace Tan Sri Rais Yatim, who completed his term as Dewan Negara Speaker on June 16.
Previously, Wan Junaidi held the legal portfolio during Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's administration from 2021 to 2022.
Additionally, he also served as Dewan Rakyat Speaker from 2008 to 2013.
