Majority of Malaysians find nurses' uniform 'fine'
NURUL HUDA HUSAINSHAH ALAM - Most social media users find the Health Ministry's female nurses' uniform 'fine' and there should not be any debate about it.
Based on a 24-hour poll on Sinar Harian's Twitter starting on Saturday, 53 per cent of the 904 who voted agreed with the view.
Meanwhile, 31 per cent voted to disagree that the attire worn by the government nurses is tight and not Shariah-compliant, while another 16 per cent had the opposite view.
Sinar Harian reported on Thursday that a Perikatan Nasional (PN) member of parliament (MP) told the Dewan Rakyat that the female nurses' dress code in most public health facilities in the country is considered non-Shariah compliant.
Wan Razali Wan Nor (PN-Kuantan) urged the government to review it so that female nurses may choose more appropriate clothing.
Following that, various parties came forward with their own views, and most disagreed with the opinion of the Pas MP.
Among those who had come forward to defend the nurses' uniform was the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs).
Its president Datuk Adnan Mat, the nurses' dress code is a minor issue that should not be magnified.
Also criticising the statement was legal practitioner Nadhirah Halim.
Nadhirah insisted that the overly prejudiced and sceptical attitude towards health workers uniforms needs to stop because they are designed according to specifications set by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
