Police constable arrested for attempted rape

IPOH - A police constable has been arrested for the attempted rape of a 19-year-old teenager at a gas station.

The incident occurred around 2.30am at a gas station located at Jalan Tun Abdul Razak on Saturday.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the 23-year-old policeman, who is stationed at Batu Gajah District Police Headquarters (IPD), was arrested after the victim lodged a report.

"The police have obtained a five-day remand order, starting today (Sunday), against the suspect.

"The case was currently being investigated under Sections 376 and 511 of the Penal Code for attempted rape," he said in a statement here today.

The investigation paper is being completed and will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for prosecution.

He also advised the public not to speculate on the case so that the investigation is not jeopardised.
