SHAH ALAM:Police has confirmed that they are investigating a case of an alleged suicide of a pregnant medical officer from a government medical facility in Selangor.

Shah Alam district police chief Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim when contacted by Sinar Daily, confirmed receiving a report on the incident, and said that the case was classified as a sudden death.

"Yes, there is a report.

"We are investigating the case under SDR (sudden death)," he said briefly when contacted but did not provide further details.

The news first came to light when a Twitter post by user @maddieness made its round on the social media platform stating that a medical officer based in Kapar had died.

Sinar Daily obtained information that the MO, a 32-year-old mother was believed to have died after she allegedly hung herself on June 6.

It was learnt that the victim hailed from Shah Alam and a cremation was held at Nirvana’s Crematorium in Shah Alam on June 7.

Based on the original tweet, @maddieness had expressed remorse over the incident in a bid to create awareness about mental health among the medical fraternity.

The tweet, which highlighted that the news was shared by people who worked in the clinic and friends who knew the victim also urged social media users to check on their friends in the healthcare industry.

Following the post, many social media have expressed their sadness for the deceased and reminded people to seek help and communicate with people around them.

Several users also pointed out that many healthcare workers were referred to psychiatric clinics due to the high stress in the industry.

Twitter user @aidasam_ wrote, "I see a lot of healthcare personnel referrals to psychiatric clinics, even myself. It's okay not to be okay, gang".

Another user Madihah pointed out that relevant authorities needed to act fast and that the Health Ministry should do something.

Meanwhile, tweet by @rizwanhafiz91 mentioned Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa and urged her to comment on the news.

However, there is no latest information from the Health Ministry (KKM).

Previously, the Health Ministry (MoH) announced the official formation of the independent Healthcare Work Culture Improvement Task Force (HWCITF) to look into matters such as bullying incidents and mental stress faced by healthcare personnel.
