SHAH ALAM - The people of Kedah need to be wise in assessing the performance and progress achieved by the government led by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor after Perikatan Nasional (PN) seized the state’s administrative power since 2020.

Kedah Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Mahfuz Omar said even though it had been the state government for about three years, not much progress and development had been successfully done by Pas in Kedah until today.

The former Pokok Sena Member of Parliament (MP) said that the situation worsened when Sanusi was said to prefer playing politics and looking for enemies rather than maintaining relations with the federal government so that various developments including the Flood Mitigation Plan project could be completed on schedule.

Therefore, Mahfuz said that PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition has a bright chance of recapturing Kedah from PN which Pas currently leads.

“In fact, PH and BN’s act of introducing the slogan ‘Kalih Bagi Sama’ (make it the same), which was to form a Kedah state government that is in line with the federal government caused Sanusi to start feeling restless and uncomfortable because he was worried about losing the Menteri Besar post after the state election.

“The situation has become increasingly critical because the people can see with their own eyes that there are no job opportunities, changes and major developments made by PN despite various sweet promises they made when they took over Kedah three years ago,” he told Sinar Premium.

Mahfuz said that it showed that the Sanusi-led state government had failed to build a good rapport with the federal government thus causing investors to be afraid to invest in Kedah at the moment.

He also said that all federal government employees and state government agencies could also evaluate Menteri Besar’s performance following Sanusi’s act of stirring up controversy and launching a ‘cold war’ with central government leaders.

“People also need to ask the Menteri Besar how much money has gone into the state government’s account as a result of the production of ‘rare earth elements’ (REE) minerals that have been extracted from the land of Kedah over the years.

“The people of Kedah also need to ask the state government where the allocation of billions of ringgit approved by the federal government goes because until now, the problem of water supply disruption is still going on in Kedah,” he said.

In the meantime, Mahfuz confirmed that the seat allocation between PH-BN in Kedah is running smoothly and was expected to be fully completed this week.

He said that PH and BN did not face the problem of seat distribution because both shared something in common which was to ensure that Kedah was led by the same government as the federal.

“The seat distribution process between PH-BN went smoothly because it was accepted by grassroots and leaders of both political parties because we are seizing Kedah so that the administration of the state government goes hand in hand with the Unity Government in Putrajaya,” he said.
