SHAH ALAM - The government is urged to introduce tax relief for companies that do not practise discrimination in employment based on religious or racial differences.

United Malays Economic Action Council (MTEM) Senior Fellow Ahmad Yazid Othman said the move would bring awareness to the Malaysian industry and cultivate unity among various races in the working community.

"The criteria for not practising discrimination consist of hiring and treating workers fairly without focusing on each race.

"It also included hiring business partners who are multi-racial. Therefore, it can indirectly remove the issue that once existed where there were large companies owned by one race.

"It will open up space for all citizens to attempt to understand each other; we will always try to find unity and understanding," he said during the programme titled ‘Behind the Issues: Racial Discrimination Still Exists in the World of Unemployment’ on Friday.

The programme, hosted by Finaz Yunus, was attended by Berjaya Mega Motors Managing Director Boss James.

Yazid added that the government is also urged to solve the issue of hijabs in the hotel sector.

He explained that the matter should not happen as Malaysia represents Islam as its official religion.
