Tourist arrested for alleged rape of hotel worker in Genting
KUANTAN - Police have arrested a foreign tourist suspected of raping a 20-year-old at a hotel in Genting Highlands on Monday.
The victim, who is also a hotel worker, lodged a report against the 41-year-old suspect on the same day.
Bentong district police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the suspect was arrested at a location near the hotel at 1pm following the report.
"The suspect has been remanded for seven days until June 19 for investigations carried out under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape," he said in a statement on Friday.
Zaiham said based on reports, in the 5.20 am incident, the victim was walking back home to her friend’s rented home when she was called by the suspect asking questions about the hotel's facilities before she was asked to sleep with the man.
"The victim rejected his advances, but the suspect had pulled the victim’s arm, forcibly brought her into his room, and raped her," he said.
Zaihan advised the public, especially women, to be vigilant and protect themselves to avoid any unwanted incidents.
