Wan Junaidi says he's ready to take on Dewan Negara Speaker post
MOHAMAD AMREEL IMAN ABD MALEKSHAH ALAM - Former law minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar says he is ready to take on the post of Dewan Negara Speaker if appointed.
The former Santubong MP also added that it is his dream to implement transformation in Parliament if appointed.
"The matter has yet to be realised, but it will be my responsibility if I take that role.
"I also hope the government could aid in efforts to update regulations by enacting laws related to Parliament," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian on Friday.
Junaidi said he received approval from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah for his nomination.
However, he said the appointment must be accompanied by his application to be a member of Dewan Negara, which he has yet to do.
A source recently said that Junaidi’s name was agreed upon to be nominated as he had expertise in law along with his experience.
He, who was now 78 years old, did not contest the 15th general election (GE15) after becoming an MP for over seven terms since 1990.
