IPOH - Umno Pasir Salak division does not have the right to propose punishments to the Discipline Board to be taken against Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.

Former Pasir Salak Umno division deputy chief Dr Faizal Tajuddin said the Umno Discipline Board should be free of any influence in deciding punishments against those found in breach of discipline.

He said the Umno constitution stated only the Discipline Board could suggest punishments to the Supreme Council after the complaint received is investigated.

"Pasir Salak Umno Division does not have the locus standi to make any recommendations regarding disciplinary actions. "Khairul Azwan Harun’s (Pasir Salak Umno division chief) statement that he wanted to ensure Tajuddin’s appeal wasn’t accepted by the party is inappropriate.

"Every accusation thrown out must be proven with evidence," he told Sinar on Friday.

Faizal explained that the statement made it seem as if Khairul was directly involved with the decision to suspend Tajuddin’s membership.

Sinar on Wednesday reported Khairul’s statement wanting the Umno Supreme Council to reject Tajuddin’s appeal, claiming the former Pasir Salak Umno division chief continued to tarnish the image of the party leadership.

Khairul, in the statement, wanted to ensure Tajuddin’s appeal was not accepted by the Supreme Council.

Tajuddin revealed on June 9 that he had sent three appeal letters on his membership suspension, but they were ignored.

However, in the closing speech in conjunction with the 2023 Umno General Assembly, party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party was open to accepting back members who were sacked or suspended.
