Collaboration between RCSEd and UKM receives international acclaim

SHAH ALAM - The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) has been recognised as the second runner-up for the prestigious 2023 BMCC Business Excellence Award.

The award acknowledges RCSEd's significant contributions and achievements in the field of education, particularly in the UK-Malaysia education institutional category.

Presented by the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC), this honor highlights RCSEd's exceptional dedication and remarkable impact on the development of the education industry in Malaysia and the United Kingdom.

Through its successful partnership with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), RCSEd has fostered strong relationships with both institutions, leading to fruitful collaborations that have greatly enhanced medical and surgical education in Malaysia and the UK.

Expressing delight over the recognition, RCSEd Vice President, Clare McNaught, emphasised the power of collaboration and its immense value to the medical and surgical education sectors.

"We take immense pride in our collaboration with UKM and the achievements we have accomplished together.

"This award is a testament to the successful partnership between our institutions and its positive impact on the education sector in both Malaysia and the UK.

"We are excited to continue our partnership with UKM in the years to come," McNaught said in a statement today.

One of the notable outcomes of the collaboration between RCSEd and UKM is the Tuanku Muhriz Travelling Fellowship in Rural Surgery, which promotes humanitarian healthcare in remote and rural areas.

McNaught thanked the Health Ministry for their invaluable support in these endeavors.

Meanwhile, UKM Vice Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Ekhwan Toriman echoed McNaught's sentiments and expressed gratitude for the recognition received alongside one of the world's most esteemed institutions.

"I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to all the parties involved, particularly the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Higher Education Ministry, and UKM Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Hanafiah, and past RCSED international surgical advisor, who played a crucial role in developing this partnership.

"I hope this collaboration will continue to thrive in the future and become a central hub for surgical training and education in this region," he said.

The BMCC Business Excellence Award 2023 marks a significant milestone for RCSEd and UKM, as their collaborative efforts over the past five years have resulted in outstanding outcomes and paved the way for further success in the future.
