Rosmah applies for temporary passport release to visit Nooryana in S’pore

KUALA LUMPUR - Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor appeals for a temporary release of her passport for the third time in the Putrajaya Court of Appeal two weeks ago, saying that she wants to visit her daughter Nooryana Najwa Najib in Singapore.

The motion notice dated June 2 saw Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s wife appeal for the travel document to be given back for one month from June 6 to July 7.

In the affidavit supporting the notice, the 72-year-old woman said the application to obtain the document was in order.

“The prosecution has no objection to my application.

“Out of a sense of humility, I am requesting permission to obtain my passport to be used during my personal visit of my children and family in the country (Singapore),” the former prime minister’s wife said.

Rosmah said she would make a letter of undertaking to present the passport back to the court as soon as possible or at the latest a week after returning from Singapore.

Court records stated a hearing on the motion would be held in the Court of Appeal on Thursday.

In 2021, Rosmah the High Court granted her temporary release of her passport to travel to Singapore.

Rosmah’s passport was withheld by the court since 2018, in line with the bail conditions imposed on the prosecution day of the solar energy project corruption case in Sarawak.

She was found guilty of three counts of corruption related to a solar hybrid project worth RM1.25 billion for 369 rural schools in Sarawak and sentenced to 10 years in prison with a fine of RM970 million.

Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan (now Court of Appeal Judge) ordered Rosmah to be imprisoned for 30 years if she failed to pay the fine, but allowed her request to defer the execution of the prison sentence and fine pending her appeal to be heard by the Court of Appeal on July 11 to July 14.
