Car explosion in Alor Setar leaves three children with burn injuries

ALOR SETAR - Three children sustained burn injuries when a car they were in exploded and caught fire near Taman Industri Ringan Sri Mergong, Lorong Perak 22 on Tuesday.

Kedah Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Public Relations Officer Fireman Superintendent Abdul Rahim Che Omar, the victims were between five to 54-years-old.

He said the department was alerted to the incident at 12.31pm.

"PGO immediately dispatched machinery from the Alor Setar Fire and Rescue Station to the scene, with assistance from the Kampung Berjaya Volunteer Fire Brigade," Abdul Rahim said.

Upon arrival, the Operations Commander reported that the fire had engulfed the inside of the Proton Wira and had affected three individuals.

"It was reported that the driver suffered 80% burns, his wife suffered 30% burns, and their children suffered nearly 95% burns," he said.

Rahim said the three victims were sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) for further treatment.

Abdul Rahim mentioned that the extent of the fire and the cause are still under investigation.
