Man arrested for breaking into kindergarten

KULAI - A man was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of being involved in a case of breaking into a kindergarten in Jalan Kenari, Bandar Putra here.

Kulai Acting District Police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said the incident occurred at 7.30am on August 16 last year but the suspect escaped before being arrested on Sunday.

“The kindergarten was found to have been broken into when a teacher saw a sign of forced entry at the entrance door. Further inspection revealed a laptop and a projector were missing.

“The victim checked the closed-circuit camera (CCTV) and found that an unknown man had broken in.

“The victim filed a police report on the same day and the loss was estimated at RM2,000,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Yusof said a 31-year-old local man was successfully arrested in front of a grocery store on the main road of Felda Bukit Ramun, at 7.30pm on Sunday.

“Two laptops and six mobile phones of various brands were also confiscated and the suspect admitted to being involved in the case.

"Investigation will be carried out on the suspect who has also been involved in other criminal cases in Kulai. The victims will identify the confiscated case items,” he said.

Yusof said the suspect had six records related to crime and drugs and was on the police wanted list for offences related to 15 (1) (A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The man was tested positive for methamphetamine when arrested.

Yusof added that the man was remanded for a week starting on Monday until June 18.

“The case is investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code and if found guilty can be punished with imprisonment of up to 14 years or a fine or a whipping for the second offence,” he said.
