Elderly man and grandchildren injured as car crashes into petrol station store
MELAKA - A senior citizen and his two grandchildren experienced a moment of panic when the car they were in crashed into a convenience store at a petrol station on Jalan Bukit Rambai on Sunday.
Melaka Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said that the incident occurred around 7pm, shortly after the 69-year-old man finished refueling his Hyundai Sonata with his two grandchildren, aged 13 and 12.
"After refueling, the elderly man accidentally pressed the gas pedal, causing the car to skid and crash into the convenience store at the petrol station,” he said when contacted today.
Fortunately, only minor injuries were sustained by the three individuals involved, and no customers or employees were harmed in the incident.
"After being informed about the incident, their son arrived at the scene and took them to the hospital for treatment."
“The closed circuit camera (CCTV) footage at the scene of the incident has been obtained and the investigation is being conducted under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport 1987,” he said.
