Tiger sighting in Sungai Siput rubber estate

IPOH - The Perak Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) will install camera traps to detect the presence of a tiger allegedly roaming in a rubber estate near Pos Legap, Sungai Siput.

State Perhilitan director Yusoff Shariff said residents had submitted complaints about the presence of this big cat yesterday, before it went viral on social media.

He said a team was dispatched to the location where the tiger was last seen to monitor and control the area.

"So far, we haven't found any tracks left by the animal.

"However, Perhilitan will install camera traps in the identified areas to collect information about the tiger," he said when contacted today.

So far, the department has not been able to confirm whether the tiger was the same animal seen at Bukit Berekeh last month.

"The department will have to wait for the information obtained through camera traps later before confirming it," he said.

Earlier today, residents, especially rubber tappers, expressed concerns about the lurking animal around the rubber estate at Pos Legap.

An image of the tiger had been making the rounds on social media.

Last May, Perhilitan confirmed that a tiger was spotted at Bukit Berekeh after a photo of the animal's footprints went viral.

The tiger was still on the loose and was said to have eaten livestock owned by the surrounding residents.
