KUALA LUMPUR - Umno will sponsor 10,000 students from low-income families (B40) to continue their education for free.

Umno vice president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said they will be exempted from paying tuition fees.

"I want to congratulate the launch of the Umno Education Fund during the general assembly this time around.

"In this regard, I would like to inform you about this programme, which was introduced by former higher education minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad previously.

"For 2023 and beyond, we will further sponsor 10,000 students who are the first from each B40 family to be enrolled in public universities; they will be exempted from paying tuition fees," he said.

He said this in his winding up speech at the Umno General Assembly at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTC) on Saturday.

The Higer Education Minister also requested the cooperation of leaders in their respective areas to identify the students from the B40 group to participate in the programme.

"Therefore, I hope Umno leaders and members alike will identify B40 children in their respective areas who will be the first to be admitted to the public higher education institutes (IPTA) in their family to ensure they are eligible to participate in this inaugural programme.

"This means that they would be exempted from paying for their course at public universities completely," he explained.
