KUALA LUMPUR - The Perlis Umno representative has suggested for the appointment of tahfiz teachers, who come from backgrounds with understanding of Umno under the Community Development Department (Kemas) preschools (Tabika) Pre-Tahfiz programme.

Padang Besar Umno division secretary Zaini Meh@Hussin said the matter needed to be done as a preparation so that there would be no opposition against Umno in the future.

"I suggest that teachers who came from Umno background to manage the tahfiz classes at Tabika Kemas.

"Therefore, we have to select the teachers carefully and conduct a comprehensive hiring process," he said.

He said this during the 2023 Umno General Assembly (PAU) at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL), here, today.

On May 31, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the ministry was targeting to produce as many as 100,000 young huffaz (Quran memorisers) at Tabika Kemas by 2026.

The Rural and Regional Development Minister said the target was set in line with the implementation of the Tabika Kemas Pre-Tahfiz programme starting next month (July) in collaboration with Yayasan Pahang, as a strategic partner that will help in the management aspects.

Zahid added that the programme combined the elements of 7M which were mengaji (recite), menghafaz (memorise), membaca (reading), menulis (writing), mengira (calculating), menaakul (reasoning) and manusiawi (humanise).
