Sinar Harian bags silver for MPI's Best Video Documentary Award
KUALA LUMPUR - Sinar Harian won second place in the Best Video Documentary Category Award at the Malaysian MPI-Petronas Journalism Prize 2022 ceremony held yesterday.
The article, titled 'Sungai Rambai Sungai Paling Tercemar Di Malaysia' (Rambai River is Malaysia's Most Polluted River) was written by Sinar Harian Premium team members Nurul Riduan Nor Ashaha, Liza Mokhtar, Nurul Nabila Ahmad Halimy, Muhammad Ikhwan Muhammad Azahari, Afnan Imadi Zainal Ayub, Rosli Talib, and Muhammad Hafiz Adnan.
The award was presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in conjunction with 2023 Malaysian Journalists Night.
The team bagged up to RM 1,500 in prize money and a certificate.
The report, which was released on Sept 15, last year, revealed a survey of Sungai Rambai in Lukut, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, which is Malaysia's sole river that has occupied the top tier of contaminated rivers for Class Five based on the National Water Quality Standard for two consecutive years in 2019 and 2020.
The 2020 Environmental Quality Report also classified nine more polluted rivers as Class Four, including five in Johor, two in Penang, and one in each of Melaka, Selangor, and Kuala Lumpur.
TV3 took first place in the category for a series of coverage on the landslip that occurred in Batang Kali on December 16, last year.
Malaysia Press Institute (MPI) Datuk Dr Chamil Wariya, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil his deputy minister Teo Nie Ching were also present.
