Man thrown from boat in accident found dead

TAWAU - A man who was reported missing after being thrown from a boat was found dead in Sungai Melayu, Pulau Sebatik, this morning.

The body of Abd Rahim Kasil, 56, was found about 200 metres away from the location of the incident at 7am.

Head of Tawau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Jemishin Ujin confirmed that a report was lodged by the villagers on the discovery of the victim’s body.

"The victim's body was found floating by villagers who were looking for him.

"The body was then brought to the Tawau Lama Fishing Port Jetty by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and handed over to the ambulance for further action," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian, today.

He also said the search and rescue (SAR) operation was then terminated as soon as the victim's body was found.

It was reported that a married couple were thrown from a boat after hitting an object.

The victim's wife known as Lina Arifin suffered a leg injury and was rescued by a fisherman who was at the location whereas the victim was believed to have drowned.
