KUALA LUMPUR - MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong says he does not feel awkward or weird attending the Umno General Assembly with DAP leaders in attendance.

"I don't feel awkward with the presence of DAP here.

"This is arranged by Umno and it is tradition for Barisan Nasional where the president of component parties will attend the general meeting of other component parties, this has always been the case," he told reporters when met outside the Merdeka Hall after Umno president Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi had delivered his speech.

Wee went on to say that Zahid's message was very clear when he stressed that Barisan Nasional had always been a a 'moderate coalition'.

"This has always been the basis of our struggle, moderation," Wee said

In May this year, MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon had reminded Zahid to prioritise the interests of coalition parties in Barisan Nasional first instead of parties in Pakatan Harapan especially DAP.

Its secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon said Zahid must hold on to principles and be extra careful with any matters regarding the relationship or cooperation between BN and PH.

It was previously reported that Zahid who is also the Umno president, said that the party faced the difficult task of ‘convincing’ its members to accept DAP’s presence as allies to form a cooperation in the federal level
