SHAH ALAM - Several party leaders in the unity government were seen attending the 2023 Umno General Assembly (PAU) held in Dewan Merdeka Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTC).

Most notably all eyes were on Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as he attended the assembly after being sacked by the party in 1998.

Anwar who is also the Prime Minister, arrived around 9am cladded in a light blue baju Melayu and was welcomed by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and the party's top leadership.

Also present were Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Anwar's last speech on the Umno stage was in 1998 as the Umno deputy president then before he was sacked.

He was sacked as the deputy prime minister and jailed under the charges that he claimed were politically motivated attempts to assassinate his character and influence.
