Apologise for your past insults, Umno Youth tells DAP
KUALA LUMPUR - In a fiery speech meant to assuage skeptics within the party, Umno Youth has demanded DAP to show proof that the party will not repeat any of its anti-Malay and anti-Islam remarks that were spewed in the past.
And most importantly, said Youth Chief Dr Muhammad Akmal Salleh, the predominantly Chinese party needs to apologise for its previous incendiary remarks against the Malay party.
"DAP must withdraw all the insults and racist remarks they have thrown at us before.
"If you want to go through this state election, if you want Umno's acceptance, then an apology from DAP must be done immediately," he said.
Akmal believed that such needed to be done given how most Umno members were still very much concerned and worried about the ongoing political cooperation between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH).
"Umno is worried if Umno sits with the Dap, we can no longer talk about issues of religion, race and education of the Malays. Umno is also afraid that they have to obey and follow DAP's lead.
"We want to emphasise that Umno Youth will make sure that Umno will never becomes a follower of DAP, it is mandatory and that is the voice of the Malaysian Umno Youth," said Akmal in his keynote address at the wing's 2023 general meeting today.
He added that Umno would never compromise on its core struggle despite the fact that it was now part of the same government as PH.
In last year's 15th General Election (GE15), on November 19, Umno suffered its worst defeat at the national poll, winning only 26 parliamentary seats compared to the 54 that it won in GE14.
Despite its loss, Umno however, ultimately managed to form government with Pakatan Harapan as GE15 ended in a hung parliament where not a single party had enough numbers to form a government on their own.
