KUALA LUMPUR – Umno has launched the Malay Education Fund as the party gears towards the upcoming state elections.

The fund was unveiled after a closed-door briefing by party President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to delegates attendingthe party's 2023 General Meeting (PAU2023) here, today.

The Deputy Prime Minister was the first to donate to the fund, contributing RM5,000 which was wired through QR code while his deputy Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan also did the same where he transferred RM3,000.

According to its promotional leaflet, the CIMB Bank based fund is managed by Umno’s Education and Research Secretariat.

“Start with RM10. If one million Umno members donate, a year we’ll get RM10 million,” read the pitch printed on the leaflet.

Among those present during the fund’s launching were party Vice-President Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Secretary-General Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

Tonight, Zahid is expected to officiate the general meeting of Umno’s Youth, Puteri and Wanita wings which will take place tomorrow.

Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan are expected to go to the polls this year because said states did not dissolve their respective legislative assemblies when Malaysia held its 15th General Election last year.
