Former Mr Body Cantik advised to cover up while selling durians, says religious dept
NORHASPIDA YATIMKUALA TERENGGANU - The Terengganu Religious Department (JHEAT) has advised a shirtless durian seller who had a well-built and muscular physique to refrain from showing his body in public.
Senior Commissioner Chief Assistant (Dakwah Division) Zahari Sulong said the advice was given to protect oneself from defamation and to seek blessings in business.
"JHEAT is of the view that what went viral (the video) should not happen not only in Terengganu but everywhere because it opens room for defamation.
"When he is in a public, he should not show his body like that.
"It is right if he said he had covered his aurat by wearing trousers, but we should cover all of it (body). We have to cover up our aurat properly to preserve our image and dignity. From there, God willing, there shall be grace bestowed on everyone who is looking for halal (pure) income," he said when met by Sinar today.
He said so far, JHEAT has taken the approach to offer advice instead of taking any stern action.
"We have regulations regarding exposing body in public under Section 35 of the Terengganu Sharia Criminal Enactment (Takzir)," he said.
The enactment states that exposing any part of the body in public which is considered arousing is considered an offence.
Upon conviction, they can be fined not more than RM3,000 or imprisoned for not more than two years or both.
Previously, a video and photo of a muscly man who was reportedly a widower with three children went viral on social media while selling durian in Kampung Baru, Seberang Takir at the Draw Bridge.
The video shared on the man's TikTok and Instagram reached hundreds of thousands of views.
It is understood that the durian seller is a bodybuilder and once held the title of Mr Body Cantik or a muscular body title for three consecutive years since 2017.
