PUTRAJAYA - The Education Ministry is allowing all outdoor activities that were previously placed on hold due to the hot weather to be resumed.

Education Deputy Director-General Dr Norsiah Suhaili through a circular and guidelines issued said the permission came into effect on Tuesday.

"Taking into account the latest situation, the Education Ministry allows outdoor activities by ensuring the welfare, health and safety of students, teachers and members of the enforcement team could be assured while facing the hot weather phenomena," she said.

The Guidelines for Activities Outside Institutions under the Education Ministry stated activities could be conducted in temperatures below 35 degrees Celsius with control and precautionary measures.

All student participations in outdoor activities were done voluntarily with parental permission and cooling facilities such as canopies, ice, wet towels should be provided.

Students were encouraged to bring drinks which they should drink before, during and after the activity.

The implementers needed to adjust the duration, start and end time of the event or activity based on environmental weather changes.

Information on preventive measures, symptoms and treatments in the case of experiencing hot weather symptoms should be given to students.

If the temperatures were to exceed 35 degrees Celsius, all outdoor activities taking place must be postponed.

On May 4, the ministry ordered education institutions under it to postpone all activities involving students, teachers and lecturers following the hot weather phenomena.

The Education Ministry informed the ban included cross-country, parades, sports, games, camping as well as teaching and learning activities outdoors.
