Emotions run high as Nik Aziz posthumously awarded ‘Tan Sri’ title

SHAH ALAM - Social media users were touched by the posthumous award of Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM) which carries the title of Tan Sri conferred to former Kelantan menteri besar, the late Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Although it has been eight years since the passing of the former Pas’ Mursyidul Am, his services were remembered and appreciated by the government.

Congratulatory messages flooded short-messaging service Twitter which social media users thanking the government for awarding Nik Aziz with the PSM award.

"Congratulations to the family of Tan Sri Tuan Guru Nik Aziz Nik Mat. His services and legacy are remembered by the country.

"Although some tried to erase the legacy of Tan Sri Tuan Guru Nik Aziz, @anwaribrahim never forgets his friend," Twitter user @bumilangit wrote.

Another Twitter user @SaifulAdn expressed his appreciation to Nik Abdul Aziz and he also hoped that Pas supporters would also feel the joy.

Meanwhile, another user @_ashcool97 also congratulated him for being awarded the PSM medal which carries the title of Tan Sri.

On Monday, local media reported that the late Nik Aziz's wife, Datin Tuan Sabariah Tuan Ishak would receive the award on behalf of her late husband from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at the Istana Negara.

Nik Abdul Aziz died at his home in Pulau Melaka, Kelantan on February 15, 2015, at about 9.40pm due to prostate cancer, after he received treatment for 25 days at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital.
