'Vote for PN in Selangor state polls for better protection of interests' - Noh
KUALA SELANGOR - The people in Selangor are advised to make a prudent choice by voting for Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the upcoming state election to protect their interests.
Former Selangor Umno chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar said PN would offer appropriate safeguarding measures for hawkers, paddy farmers, fishermen, and all community groups if the party were mandated to govern the state.
He cited an incident at Tanjong Karang, where about 500 oil palm settlers in Kampung Seri Makmur, Bestari Jaya, allegedly got eviction notices from the state government.
"They are not illegal settlers; on the contrary, they were granted permission and had paid for temporary occupation licenses (TOL) for 40 years.
"However, the state government suddenly decided to grant it to a company," he said during the 'Jelajah Selangor Baharu' Programme at Tanjong Karang Pas Complex yesterday.
Noh affirmed that these issues are among the matters PN will prioritise in the Selangor state election.
"I have discussed this with Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (Selangor PN chairman), and he instructed me to announce tonight that if PN wins in the Selangor state election, we pledge not to evict the settlers there," he said.
Noh also mentioned his request for PN to review the parking fees imposed on the residents of Tanjong Karang, the majority of whom are paddy farmers and agriculturists.
"I have been advocating for the issue of parking fees in Tanjong Karang because sometimes residents who only need to make a quick purchase return to find a parking ticket.
"Charging for parking in a large city makes sense, but implementing it in a rural area like Tanjong Karang is absurd, particularly when the income of paddy farmers has been declining," he added.
In a related matter, Noh also assured that PN is committed to supporting hawkers by providing them opportunities to expand their businesses and generate higher income.
"I am not only advocating for hawkers in Tanjong Karang but also those in Sungai Buloh and Puchong because I genuinely want to assist these oppressed hawkers under the Selangor government," he stated.
Meanwhile, Azmin, in his speech, confirmed that the issues raised by Noh would be quickly addressed if PN becomes the governing party.
"Do the Indians not want to live on land they have built for 40 years?
"PN's foundation consists of Malays who are clean, responsible, and possess integrity. We provide fair treatment to the Chinese, Indians, and Malaysians, ensuring that Selangor remains safe and prosperous," he said.
He explained that he had been working to resolve the issues in Kampung Indian Settlement, Batu Caves, since he became the people's representative in 2008.
"One of the first steps I took was granting permanent land ownership to all families in Kampung Indian Settlement.
"This land issue is not our entitlement; only the government can manage it.
"We will hand it over to the people so they don't have to plead for it, as we do not want the people to be dependent on the government. It is the government's responsibility to safeguard the rights of the people in Selangor," he added.
