Ministry to introduce hybrid, flexible learning system at universities

KUALA LUMPUR - The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) is set to implement a hybrid and flexible education system for higher learning institutions (IPT).

According to its Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, under this new system, students will only be required to physically attend lectures during their first and final year of studies.

For the middle years, students will have the option to study from home and participate in online lectures, providing them with greater choice and flexibility.

The initiative aims to offer students a more adaptable schedule, allowing them to plan their activities accordingly.

"One of the key advantages is the reduction in student loans and expenses, as students can save on accommodation and transportation costs during the years they study from home.

"Additionally, this arrangement provides students with the freedom to engage in off-campus activities that do not require their presence on campus.

He said this during the closing ceremony of the Jom Masuk U 2023 program at Universiti Malaya (UM) today.

According to Khaled, there are currently 95 Bachelor's Degree Programmes prepared by 19 public universities to implement the initiative.

He said the flexible education system is scheduled to commence during the 2023/2024 academic session.
