Insult to the royal institution: Dr Mahathir ready to cooperate

SHAH ALAM - Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is ready to give his full cooperation to the police for the investigation into the Malay Proclamation.

The lawyer of the former Langkawi MP Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali said Dr Mahathir had been preparing himself to answer any charges in court.

"Dr Mahathir had been vocal about the Malay Proclamation lately.

"So he will cooperate by answering all the charges in court and in the investigation conducted by the authorities," he told Sinar.

On Friday, it was reported that Dr Mahathir's statement had been recorded to facilitate in the investigation into an alleged statement insulting the royal institutions and the Malay Proclamation.

Rafique said the Classified Crime Investigation Unit of Division D5, Bukit Aman only took 35 minutes to record Dr Mahathir's statement at Yayasan Albukhary.

"Dr Mahathir already gave a clear explanation that the Malay Proclamation is aimed at uniting the Malays and act as a mandate to the country.

"This is his democratic right to speak for the Malays and it has nothing to do with trying to topple the government," he said.
