State election: Muda identifies seats to contest

JOHOR BAHRU - Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) has identified its strengths and potential to compete in the upcoming state elections, which will be held in six states.

Its deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz said this process is crucial to deciding the states in which Muda will compete, especially those with strong party roots such as Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Penang.

"Before talking about bringing the discussion (seat allocation) to any component parties in the Unity Government, we will have to resolve the matter within the party first. Muda has already completed the assessment.

"We have identified our strengths and the states in which we are likely to compete and not to compete.

"However, we have yet to finalise the decision at Muda central committee level, but we did establish an election committee. We will announce the election director in the near future," she said in a press conference after the launching ceremony of Muda Tebrau Legal Clinic at Toppen Shopping Mall, Tebrau, here today.

Also present was Johor Muda Chairman Azrol Rahani.

Amira, who is also a Puteri Wangsa assemblywoman, said after the seat negotiations have been concluded, the matter will be brought up for discussion with component parties in the Unity Government.

She said currently, the party leadership has already met with the machinery in the six states that will be holding the state election, while the decision to compete in the east coast states will be determined soon.

Commenting on the programme, Amira said Muda will open mobile counters in several different areas in the district to provide free legal advice for those who are in need of it.

She explained that the legal clinic provides legal education and increases the awareness of low-income communities regarding civil law, rental agreements, domestic violence, crime, summons, divorce, children's rights, and company law.
