MBOR recognises UPSI Leaders Colloquium for 36 hours of non-stop public speaking

TANJUNG MALIM - Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) Leaders Colloquium has been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) after the public speaking programme successfully notched 36 hours of non-stop public speaking.

Its programme director, Siti Fairuz Rohaliza Ejahar, 24, said the programme, organised by Kolej Aminuddin Baki UPSI in collaboration with the Gerakan Mahasiswa Perak lasted for three days. The programme started on May 30 and gathered a total of 250 orators.

"This programme focuses on the leadership aspect where orators involved include university students, primary and secondary schoolchildren, local leaders, as well as members of the public who are eager to share ideas and contribute to the development of society and the country.

"The objective of organising this programme is to give opportunities to youth to voice out their ideas and their views about leadership. It is hoped that it will become the best platform to unearth youth leadership talents in this state," she told Bernama at the closing of the UPSI Leaders Colloquium Programme at the UPSI main auditorium here today.

Also present was Behrang state assemblyman Salina Samsudin and UPSI vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff.

Earlier, the MBOR recognition was presented by MBOR senior record consultant Siti Hajar Johor to Md Amin.

Meanwhile, Siti Fairuz Rohaliza, who is a sixth semester student from the Faculty of Human Development, said the idea of ​​producing the programme was triggered when her friends asked her how to get involved in the youth programme since she was a fellow alumni.

"As a Perdana fellow alumni, when I return to the university, friends ask how they can join the youth programme. Everyone is looking for a platform. Everyone of us have talent but we do not know which direction to take.

"In the country now, we are looking for young leaders so I want a platform and stage for the people to highlight their respective ideas," she said.

Meanwhile, an orator from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Mohamad Danial Ahmad Razmi, 23, said his first experience participating in this programme would be the most valuable experience.

"I am active in the field of leadership but have never had an experience in public speaking. This is an unforgettable experience. Actually, I was shy to speak on stage and in front of people, so this time I am very proud of my achievement," he said.

Another orator from semester two of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Magdeline Mega anak Frank Nugal, 21, said she will participate in such programmes again if there was an opportunity in the future.

"What made me interested in joining this programme is because it is public speaking for 36 hours non-stop. This programme is non-competitive, so all speakers are free to express their views on leadership.

"This programme gives the public an opportunity to participate and in addition to being able to gather knowledge that can be used at any time," she added. - BERNAMA
