Politically Frank: Corruption cases will not affect state polls, says Pas MP
SHAH ALAM - Under ordinary circumstances, being implicated in corruption charges would typically have a detrimental impact on one's prospects of securing votes in an election.
However, Temerloh MP Salamiah Mohd Nor said the same scenario will not apply to Pas in the upcoming state election, unlike what happened to other parties in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Salamiah claimed that the corruption charges against Bersatu, part of its Perikatan Nasional coalition are still under investigation.
She further said that the leader of Bersatu, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, has denied any involvement and has clarified the situation that he is not involved.
"We believe that the publicity image of Pas itself is clean and free from corruption.
"We have a lot of accurate information and people out there are getting true information.
"I think this is a small issue and it will not affect the reputation of Pas in the upcoming state elections," she told Sinar Daily's Politically Frank programme.
When questioned about the performance of the unity government, Salamiah asserted that the people are eagerly anticipating tangible changes, especially on welfare programmes and the cost of living.
"They are still disappointed. So far, there have been no significant changes," she said.
Salamiah believes that the internal issues faced by the unity government could potentially provide an advantage to the opposition in the upcoming elections.
"We also see that within the so-called Unity Government, there are internal issues occurring.
"So, when there are weaknesses, there is strength for the Perikatan Nasional," she added.
Salamiah went on to request that the unity government fulfill the promises outlined in their manifesto from the 15th General Election as a means to demonstrate their sincerity and dedication to their commitments.
"The people are waiting. We will see in the upcoming state elections the results that will unfold in each respective state," she said.
