KUALA LUMPUR - The Education Ministry has denied issuing an order to schools to organise the screening of the film 'Anwar: The Untold Story'.

On its Facebook page, the ministry said it had not issued any directive to host the film's screening.

Furthermore, it has been revealed that the letter dated May 22, purportedly signed by the Education director-general Datuk Pkharuddin Ghazali, is also fake.

"Check the validity of the information, do not share if you are not sure," the statement read.

This comes after the education ministry a secondary school in Putrajaya confirmed that a screening was held for the film with Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek present.

However, SMK Putrajaya Presint 5 said the students were not forced to attend the screening and part of activity held outside the classroom.

The opposition had also voiced out criticism over the screening at schools.

The movie is set between 1993 and 1998, depicting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s time as deputy prime minister and finance minister, his opposition to corruption and his imprisonment.

It was released in all major cinemas nationwide on May 18.
