Rohingya man nabbed for showing obscene gesture

KULAI - A Rohingnya man has been arrested for showing an obscene gesture after he was told off for putting a pile of scrap metal on the road.

District police chief Superintendent Tok Beng Yeow said he was alerted of the incident after receiving a 19-second video at 8.20am, today.

“The video showed an undocumented migrant disrupting public order and it has gone viral and garnered the attention of the public.

“Initial investigation revealed that the incident happened at Lorong 6, Jalan Susur Kulai, Kulai Besar.

“In the video, the Rohingyan suspect was seen showing his middle finger to a local man who told him off for putting scrap metal on the road,” he said in a statement, today.

He said the 23-year old suspect was arrested at a house in Lorong 6, Kulai Besar, here at 11.30am, today.

The suspect confirmed that he was the individual in the video and that the incident occurred three days ago before it went viral on social media, Tok added.

He said the suspect will be remanded tomorrow (Sunday) for further investigations and that the case was being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
