JBPM, Airod ink RM52.9 mln helicopter maintenance contract

KUALA LUMPUR - The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) signed a three-year contract worth RM52.9 million with AIROD Sdn Bhd for the maintenance of its four helicopters.

The JBPM said the contract signing ceremony was held in conjunction with the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2023 (Lima '23) held at the resort island from May 23-27.

It said that the contract, which ends in 2026, involves the supply of helicopter spare parts and rental facilities to ensure the operational capability of the Mi-17-IV/Mi171 model helicopters is at an optimal level.

"AIROD Sdn Bhd will conduct periodic maintenance, inspection, repair and improvement works to ensure the serviceability, availability and operational readiness of the helicopters are at an optimum level.

"This contract also includes the provision of hangar and building facility rentals, which will enable the continued operation of JBPM,” it said in a statement today.

The statement also said that, at the same function, the JBPM signed three notes of understanding (NoU) to improve its efficiency in delivering assistance to victims of accidents and disasters by air.

The statement added that the NoU was signed with the Ministry of Transport through the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development through the Department of Orang Asli Development (Jakoa) and the Works Ministry through Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM).

Deputy Local Government Development Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir and Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah witnessed the NoU signing ceremony.

"This NoU covers strategic collaboration related to Emergency Medical Air Rescue Services (Emars), which is a medical transport assistance service by air and medical assistance and patient evacuation including rural communities as well as road accident management on major highways in Malaysia,” the statement added.

According to the statement, the NoU also aims to improve the efficiency of agencies involved in dealing with air disaster incidents and related fields, in addition to further strengthening aspects of public safety and disaster response capabilities.

It also said that the NoU would not only improve the efficiency and effectiveness of air disaster incident management but also speed up the investigation process of aviation accidents, improve the implementation of safety measures and the development of the latest protocols for emergency response and medical evacuation operations. - BERNAMA
