What's wrong backing unity govt for stability, align with people's agenda, ask Umno youth
JOHOR BAHRU - Youth's support for a Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate, including the DAP should not be a matter of concern as it serves the purpose of maintaining stability and advancing the people's agenda in upcoming elections in six states.
Umno Youth deputy chief Mohd Hairi Mad Shah said the support holds significance since both BN and PH represent key components within the unity government.
“What's wrong with supporting the unity government to ensure stability and prevent interference, especially when it aligns with the people's agenda.
“A charter for unity has been created which signifies a new direction for the party within the evolving political dynamics. For me, this is a promising opportunity and I hope youths recognise and appreciate the momentum the government of today holds," he said.
The sentiments that were previously expressed, he said such as racial divisions targeting the Chinese or Malays, have disappeared since both parties started collaborating and developing mutual understanding. "This matter no longer requires further discussion," he said.
He said this at a press conference after officiating the 2023 Johor Oil and Gas Services and Equipment (OGSE) Tour at the Persada International Convention Centre, here on Tuesday.
Sinar had reported that Umno voters in the six states preparing for elections were encouraged to support DAP candidates in their respective constituencies as a means to strengthen the position of the unity government.
Ahmad Maslanhad further said such actions were justified within the framework of party discipline while being part of the unity government.
State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Human Resources Exco Hairi Mad Shah added the issue of support involving DAP and Umno was exploited by the opposition as a strategy to garner support.
“All political parties have worked with Pas and Bersatu. Pas themselves have worked with DAP, Umno said nothing at the time.
“However, what’s happening today when they (Bersatu and Pas) have worked together, they talk about Umno and DAP while forgetting they used to work together. Therefore, there’s no obstacle for BN and PH to work together,” he said.
