Cause of EPF building fire being probed, no casualties reported
SHAH ALAM - The cause of the fire that occurred at the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) building in Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya is currently under investigation.
In a statement, the EPF Corporate Affairs Department said they, along with Pacific Senior Living (Pacific), are working with local authorities and the fire department to determine the cause of the fire and evaluate the extent of the damage to the building.
It said the morning fire was extinguished without any reports of injuries or casualties.
“Our highest appreciation goes to the Fire and Rescue Department for their swift action to contain the fire before it caused further damage.
The statement said the building had been vacant since the first fire incident in February 2018 and was undergoing redevelopment by Pacific to be transformed into a residential facility for the elderly.
“EPF has signed a 30-year lease agreement with Pacific on April 6, 2022. They started the demolition work on the interior of the building.,” the statement said.
Selangor fire and rescue department operations assistant director Hafisham Mohd Noor on Monday said EPF building in Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya, was on fire again.
He said he received the emergency call at 10.39am. The fire, which occurred on the fourth and fifth floor of the building was brought under control by firefighters by 11:08am.
