Zahidi submits membership form to party not linked with Pas, PN
KANGAR - Former Padang Besar MP Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin has confirmed that he has submitted his membership form to a political party other than Pas.
Zahidi, a former member of the Umno Supreme Council,further said that the party he applied to is not linked to Perikatan Nasional (PN) or any of its supporting parties within the coalition.
“I did apply to join a party, but it is not Pas or a party in PN,” he told Sinar when contacted today.
He is currently waiting the decision on his party membership which is expected to be known soon.
The former Communication and Multimedia minister said this when asked to comment on the rumours linking him to the 10 former Umno leaders joining Pas and PN.
He added that the party he applied to is part of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.
Zahidi further said despite being sacked by Umno, he has no qualms about serving the public and is willing to cooperate with Umno, if necessary.
During the 15th general election (GE15), Zahidi was not nominated as a candidate by Umno and contested as an independent candidate but was unsuccessful in securing a seat.
On May 18, Sinar reported that Tan Sri Annuar Musa, the former secretary-general of Barisan Nasional (BN), was one of the ten former Umno leaders who submitted their application forms to join Pas.
Furthermore, PN deputy secretary-general of Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin has shown an interest in joining Bersatu.
Takiyuddin added that all former Umno leaders who are involved and express their intention to contest in the upcoming State Elections will be considered for a place within the party.
