PUTRAJAYA - The Public Service Commission (SPA) received 1,960,261 applications for public service vacancies throughout 2022 until May 11 for

26,436 positions, said its Chairman Tan Sri Zainal Rahim Seman.

More than 70 per cent of the total applications for public service vacancies were from Malays while Chinese accounted for only 1.2 per cent and Indians for 3.1 per cent.

He further told media here today that the number of permanent appointments has increased with 15,518 individuals appointed in 2020 and 15,755 in 2021.

As for contract appointments specifically for Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, and Paramedical Officers, there were 9,952 appointments in 2020, 8,750 appointments in 2021, and 16,878 appointments in 2022.

"For contract appointments in other positions, there were 4,600 positions filled in 2020, 16,472 in 2021 and 10,285 in 2022," he said.

SPA has developed a digitalisation system for the recruitment process to eliminate the perception of favouritism often associated with the commission, he added.

Zainal said that for the interview stage, SPA appointed two panel members from the commission itself or the respective department.

"The panel is required to go through an integrity check and sign an undertaking thus closing any room that is believed to be able to employ insiders," he said.

He added that the application process is open to everyone who meets the conditions and the approval process is automated through the system until the interview stage.

"All parties at SPA have committed to ensuring that there will be no favouritism or undue influence in the recruitment process.," he said.
