SEREMBAN - Umno does not need to campaign by urging voters to support any component parties in the Unity Government including DAP.

Negeri Sembilan Umno chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias said such methods could be misinterpreted and create a negative perception, particularly among Umno voters.

"In my opinion, there is no need for us to urge or tell any party members or voters to vote or support any component parties in the Unity Government.

"This is because voters have already made up their own decision and I hope all parties would be more careful and not to mention anything that can be misinterpreted," he told Sinar today.

On the other hand, the Jelebu MP said ahead of the state elections, Umno should try to convince the people that the current government is the best.

He said the mission and manifesto offered are crucial in instilling confidence among the people on the coalition between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH).

"We have to show that the coalition can give more benefits compared to the previous government.

"But, if there is any party that believes such a method is the best, then it is up to them. Personally, I believe that these two months are crucial for convincing the people," he said.

Previously, Sinar reported that Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan had urged Umno voters to consider candidates from the Unity Government in the upcoming state election, regardless of party, including DAP.

He said the urge was not made on behalf of a specific party but rather in the name of the Unity Government and in accordance with the decree of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to uphold political stability in the country.
