Unity Govt: A political journey determined by Allah SWT, says Zambry
SHAH ALAM - Sinar Ahad reporters had the opportunity of interviewing BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir after the Unity Government National Convention on May 14, where 19 parties came together for the sake of stability in politics in the country.
In the interview session, Zambry was asked whether he had joined Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political team when he was the Umno youth chief and deputy prime minister and Zambry’s thoughts on the matter after returning again under the unity government led by Anwar after 25 years.
Zambry responded, stating that it was a political journey that he had endured and that he has always been in the background.
"I take that as a political journey determined by Allah SWT, even though I didn’t expect I would be in the same situation as Anwar to return as a ‘boss’ even though we are in different parties.
"I would usually be in the background, playing a role behind the administration. I will try to give the best service I can. I assumed this was a historic political journey in my life," he said.
He said working with Anwar was not foreign to him because, when Anwar was in Umno, he was an Umno youth member alongside Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
In 1998, Zahid and he were both fated to be imprisoned for a short while due to actions taken under the Internal Security Act (ISA). On the other hand, Anwar was sentenced to jail because of the court case he faced.
He said he took this experience as the ups and downs of the political world, and there may be some bittersweet moments, but the journey would not happen without Allah SWT's plans.
"What is important is that we use the space and opportunity given to provide the best service for the country," he added.
