Focus on educating parents to avoid using illegal school buses, vans - RTD
SHAH ALAM - The Road Transport Department (RTD) is focusing on raising awareness among parents to not use the services of illegal school buses or vans.
Selangor RTD director Datuk Khairul Khar Yahya said the public, especially parents should be aware of the risks towards children if there were any untoward incidents.
“Selangor RTD wants to focus more on advocacy or education rather than enforcement actions.
“We want parents to realise the risk of using illegal services such as the school buses and vans,” he said when met at the Selangor RTD Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration here, yesterday.
Also present were RTD director-general Datuk Zailani Hashim and Selangor RTD members and families.
He added that the state RTD Operations Unit on Wednesday had carried out the Ops Bas Sekolah operation around Jalan Cheras Kajang, Mahkota Cheras from 8am.
This was to ensure that school buses were in good and safe conditions to be used by students and complied with the Land Public Transport Act 2010, the Road Transport Act 1987 and the rules under it by drivers and owners of public service vehicles.
In the operation which went on until 3pm, a total of 36 buses were checked and action has been taken against six of the buses for misusing the Motor Vehicle License (LKM), and Competent Driving License (CDL), expiry of the vocational licence as well as technical offences.
The public could lodge traffic complaints to [email protected] or the e-aduan@JPJ application by including the details of the complainant and the complaint.
