State polls: Ahmad Maslan urges Umno voters to vote for DAP
SHAH ALAM - Umno voters in the six election facing states are urged to vote for DAP candidates in their respective areas to strengthen the Unity Government.
Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said this is to abide by the party's discipline in the Unity Government.
"The party's discipline ensures the party's instructions are followed. While it is true that who you vote for is confidential, I am simply asking people not to vote in the name of the party or DAP but in the name of the Unity Government.
"The Unity Government was established following a decree from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong when there was a hung Parliament. So we must follow and remain loyal to Agong's order," he said in a press conference today.
He said this when asked to comment on Umno voters' willingness to vote for DAP in the upcoming state election.
In the meantime, the Deputy Finance Minister also reminded Umno members to leave their personal sentiments behind because the Malaysian political landscape has significantly changed after the 15th General Election (GE15).
"What had happened before is in the past now. Now we need the stability I mentioned earlier.
"Candidates contesting in the state election are not representing DAP or Pakatan Harapan (PH) but they represent the Unity Government," he said.
The Pontian MP also supports the Unity Government National Convention in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, and Penang to be held earlier to ensure a more stabilised political situation in the states involved.
"All 19 parties present in Dewan Merdeka at WTC are a symbol of stability, whereas there has never been a government with so many parties involved. They were all wearing white shirts, symbolising the clean and pure intention of what they wanted to implement.
"If it's possible, the convention can be held in the six states involved in the state election. Hold the convention at the state level so that the grassroots can express unity," he said.
