Bukit Aman special team probes 23 cases on 3R, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR - The police have set up a special team, led by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit of Division D5 within the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department to probe cases involving insults on religion, race, and the royal institution (3R).

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani made this announcement said they take viral cases related to 3R on social media seriously.

"We take cases related to 3R that had gone viral on social media seriously. We need to make sure we put a stop to posts related to 3R.

"The special investigation team will conduct investigation immediately when there are posts touching on 3R issues," he said in a press conference after attending a Hi-tea ceremony with the media in Bukit Aman, here, today.

Acryl Sani said the team has initiated a total of 23 investigation papers link to 3R cases, spanning from March 22 to May 17. Among the cases, 11 involve insults directed at royal institutions, four cases are related to religious issues and five cases involve racial elements.

"Three cases have been successfully prosecuted in court and 18 cases are still under investigation. We are taking appropriate actions to ensure the harmony of the people in Malaysia is always preserved," he said.

When asked if Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang will be called for a 3R case, Acryl Sani said anyone involved will be called to assists in the investigation.

"It's the standard operating procedure (SOP)," he said.
